About the event

Ready to learn to knit? This beginner-friendly class covers the basics, including knitting tools, yarn, and the two essential stitches: knit and purl. You'll cast on a simple scarf project, have plenty of time to practice and ask questions, and leave with the confidence to continue knitting at home.

Materials: Class fee includes one pair of knitting needles and enough yarn to complete a scarf. If you already have needles and yarn you'd like to use, feel free to bring them, and we'll help you get your project started with your own supplies.

Recommended Age: Best suited for ages 16 and up.

About The Teacher

Hello! My name is Laurel Meester. I began my knitting journey nearly twenty years ago, when a cousin taught me my first stitch! I did not learn a second stitch until over a decade later but since then I have been pushing myself to learn and grow every year. I have submitted items to the Steele County Free Fair and hope to one day win that elusive grand champion ribbon! One of the things I love best about knitting is that it can be equal parts practical and whimsical. We can make a hat that is worn every day or an intricate shawl that hangs on the wall like art. I also enjoy that the practice of knitting is so calming even as a new project or skill excites me!

When I am not knitting I spend time with husband, 4 year old daughter, and dog. I love to read and watch sports. I also love being in community with people near and far!
